Author Interview – Megan Hart!!! + A Signed Giveaway!

I’ve mentioned this book and this author a million and one times on this blog. Just do a search and you’ll see 🙂 Megan Hart is one of my favorite authors and her book Broken, my favorite ever… EVER!

I haven’t read a book by Megan Hart I haven’t absolutely loved. I’m not sure I can fully explain how wonderfully written they are. How unforgettable they are for the way they make me feel… And I managed to corner her for an interview!

Jessy: Hi Megan! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have you on Jessy’s Book Club! Please tell us a bit about yourself.

Megan: I’m very excited you asked me! My name is Megan, and I get excited when people ask me to be on their blogs. 😉 Ummm, what else would you like to know? I live in Pennsylvania, but I spend as much time in Delaware at the ocean as I can. I am afraid of plane crashes and sharks, I like rainbows and zombies and unicorns and glitter. I am learning how to blow smoke rings, though I don’t smoke.

Jessy: When I grow up I want to be a unicorn so there’s something in common 🙂 Other than Broken that is, which is my absolute favorite book. The mix between steam and angst/grief  is done so perfectly. Do you prepare differently before you write each kind of scene?

Megan: I approach writing every scene in much the same way…what am I trying to accomplish in moving the story forward. Sex is full of emotion, and it’s not always happy. So no, I’d say I don’t approach them differently at all!

Jessy: In general, how do you craft a book? Do you outline it in its entirety or do you go with the flow and see where the story takes you?

Megan: I usually know the beginning and the end, but the middle is a vast wonderland of WHAT IF. I outline very sparingly. I might outline or write a list of scenes I need, but from chapter to chapter I’m seeing where it goes.

Jessy: Let’s move on to another favorite; Tear You Apart. While reading it, I found myself wishing I knew what Will was thinking. Are you ever tempted to write a different character POV book?

Megan: I wrote Everything Changes, which was a short story based on Tempted, written from Alex’s point of view. But I haven’t thought to do a full novel. As for Will’s point of view, I’d be interested to know what he was thinking, too!

Jessy: I’ll keep my fingers crossed then 🙂 Of all your books, which would you say was your favorite to write?

Megan: Dirty. I could’ve lived in that world forever, for a lot of different reasons, one of them being when I wrote it, I had no contracts. And it was the first book I sold to Harlequin. But I’ve also loved writing others, too. Collide was tons of fun to write. The Resurrected was a blast to write, too.

 Jessy: How much weight do you give to critics’ reviews of your books?

Megan: I write for the people who like what I do, not for the ones who don’t. So, everyone’s entitled to an opinion about pretty much anything, and I’m entitled not to read negative reviews! Saying that, though, I do appreciate a thoughtful review that’s not necessarily glowing or all positive. It’s ok not to like something, or find flaws. I’m not perfect, and neither are my books. The world’s a big place with plenty of room to find things we love!

Jessy: Agreed! What kind of books do you enjoy on your down time?

Megan: I like mainstream fiction, literary fiction, horror, science fiction, fantasy…

Jessy: One last question, if you weren’t a successful author, what would you be?

Megan: I always wanted to be an actress. Or a rock star. Or have my own TV show. Or maybe a paranormal investigator!
