He was ugly as sin. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.
Book #1, Beauty Touched The Beast, was a cure to my book slump. And while it was too short to really get a feel for the characters, I found myself thinking about them. I suppose book #1 was meant to be a one off. A beautiful girl falling in love with a scarred man. But I wanted to know more about them. I wondered about their back-stories. What happened to Blake? Could Erin heal him? So I decided to read Book #2 straight away.
It’s two weeks into their relationship. And Erin has realized that while she enjoys the awesome sex, she wants to know more about Blake. And for starters, why he doesn’t sleep. She confronts him in his office and it dawns on her that this is where he hides from the world. His little cave where behind his computer he can discuss politics with people who can’t see him, who can’t judge him from his outward appearance.
But he can’t hide anymore. Not when Erin sees too much. And when he’s offered a job to lecture at the university, he decides to take up the offer. If only to become a man who can be worthy of Erin. He can’t hide forever, especially when he realizes that everytime Erin goes out into the world, is another opportunity for her to never come back.
Every part of him wanted to claim her, to take her as his own so no other man could ferry her away when she went out into the world while he was trapped here.
I absolutely loved this installment. The first one, as I mentioned, didn’t give us an oportunity to know the characters. This one changes all that. We learn a bit more about Blake, and a lot more about Erin. More characters are introduced… but with it comes more pain. Blake opens up to Erin and the torment of it all brought tears to my eyes.
“Just let me in,” she whispered, a breath away from his lips. His eyes searched hers. “All of me, Erin. You already have all of me.”
I said before that I could never resist a tortured man. But especially one who feels so deeply. Loves so deeply.
He impaled her onto him; this is what you do to me. He pushed up into her; feel me, take me, never let go.
Sigh… I am now firmly invested in these two. As bad as it sounds, I’m enjoying feeling their torment, their fight… because I can’t wait to be there with them when the happily ever after comes. And it better come! I am incredibly surprised by how addicted I’ve become to this series in such a short time (a total of about 100 pages!). And now that the tortured man has become a Professor… Lord! I can’t wait to read the next installment!
