So this one starts exactly where Part 1 left off and I was immediately thrilled to be back into the wonderful writing of Kyra Davis.
Kasie is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. See, if she leaves Dave, she loses everything; her job, her family, her reputation, everything. But if she stays, its with this new Dave that she hardly recognizes. Dave went from completely dull in Part 1 to completely insane in Part 2. He manipulated Kasie, humiliated her, degraded her… but then there was Robert to the rescue. As much as I understood Kasie’s need to fix it on her own, a tiny part of me wanted her to just let Robert handle it.
The book almost read like The Art of War by Sun Tzu. Kasie decided to take matters in her own hands with Dave, planning everything in her head with almost military precision. But Robert kept insisting that he could help her, protect her… see, he’s used to playing by his own rules. But there’s just something with Robert… God those last few pages scared me! This one took on a darker edge that was definitely missing in Part 1.
And yet another cliffhanger! Gah! I’m so curious to see if Kasie will relinquish control to Robert who so clearly needs it. I’m so used to reading books where the heroines have no qualms about letting their controlling men run the show. So it was interesting to see Kasie fighting it.
I’m usually not a big fan of installments, but these ones are so wonderfully written, good character development, drama, steam… I love it!
Finally, I would like to thank Edelweiss and Simon&Schuster for providing this ARC for my honest review.
